Effect of the interlayer on soil temperature and the transformation between phreatic water and soil water under laboratory freeze-thaw action

To reveal the effect of interlayer on temperature freeze-thaw soil and transformation between phreatic water in shallow groundwater areas, a test was conducted with table depth 0.5 m under laboratory action. The sand columns constant freezing at −20°C lasted for 20 days, thawing process 15 days were monitored. interlayers particle size 0.1–0.5 mm (d 50 = 0.3 mm) thickness 5 cm set 5, 15, 20, 25 away from surface these marked as D , which compared homogeneous column (C h ) 0.5–1.5 1.0 mm). results showed that fine had thermal insulation profile it effectively inhibited upward migration to during process. A near-surface better insulation, stronger inhibition amount (UMA) larger cumulative downward movement (DMA). UMA 61%–84% C stage, DMA 29%–57% stage. inefficient loss increased exponentially interlayer, an farther consumed more stored unsaturated zone, its reached almost zero earlier.
